Of Bookmark, Potatoes and Tea Pot!

This came to light when I was emptying a cupboard yesterday: Middlest must have made it when she was about six or seven.
Just a bookmark, but you'd think it was the Crown Jewels!
One forgets how they were when they were younger, its nice to be reminded sometimes, and it certainly gave us all a laugh!

Last night for supper I thought we'd have baked potatoes with all the trimmings...all the trimmings of the salad patch, I mean!!

Just before going into town to get Eldest and friend I pulled out the potato basket and lo! nary a spud in the house! Some supper!

Its all very well having children old enough to scavenge, I mean fend, for themselves, but when they leave my cupboards in a similar state to Mrs Hubbard's, then I have a problem. Luckily I was able to get potatoes at the petrol station on the way home.

We had a near miss one morning last week with Youngest; she arrived into our room just after the Hub had brought tea and flung herself down on the bed in drama queen mode. For the first time in years the Hub had made a pot of tea (instead of mugs) and her head narrowly missed hitting the pot.

I was horrified and exclaimed that I didn't want to spend the rest of the month in the hospital with her scalded, and what would the doctors think? Youngest's answer went something along the lines of:

'Well if I can sprain my ankle jumping out of a tree and crack my wrist dancing on a see-saw, I don't think they'll be too surprised if I scald myself by head-butting the tea pot!'

As you can tell, she's a regular visitor in Out-Patients!!

Spuds at the petrol station. Hmmm? Must be like a mini-mart over here.

Glad you didn't have to make a trip to the dr.

What a bookmark! Did her sisters tend to take her stuff? lol

I loved your little book marks and I love to find things like that, I consider them little presents left for me because I'm always so happy when I see them! Boy the kids grow fast! My son is starting high school and I'm nervous! He's not!

That bookmark deserves to be a family heirloom - there is great character in it! So glad that you didn't end up at A & E. I bet there was a bit of teenage eye rolling when you were explaining what nearly happened :)

That bookmark is wonderful, and finding it now after many years have passed makes it doubly precious. And, oh, I well remember the years of teenagers who scavenge, and finding that tonight's dinner had become an after-school snack, and never knowing what, if anything, might be in the cupboard. Now I know what is in my fridge. I do get great enjoyment out of watching my 15-month old granddaughter coming to visit and browsing the selection in the refrigerator, and then always making her choice of cheese that is kept in the bottom drawer.

If I'm feeling a bit down I'll spend some time rootling around in my 'memory' drawer, full of the pictures and other things the boys did when they were small. It never fails to make me smile - even their school reports, which seemed so so important at the time. Thank goodness for petrol stations for when we run out of bread or milk or potatoes - and even petrol.
